Christina is a 7-year-old female Russian Blue cat who likes to sleep in high places. Unfortunately, she fell from the top of the wardrobe and fractured two canine teeth in her maxillary (104 and 204). Her owner brought her to our hospital for evaluation of how to proceed with treatment. After evaluation, Dr. Chung-Wei Chen (Richard Chen) decided to use dental implants to help Christina rebuild her two fractured canine teeth.
First, the residual roots of the two canine teeth were extracted, and guided bone regeneration (GBR) surgery was performed to strengthen the alveolar bone. Then, the implants and crowns were sequentially implanted. All treatments for the maxillary right canine tooth (104) have been successfully completed. The implant of the maxillary left canine tooth (204) was successfully placed, and the design and installation of the crown will be carried out after waiting for osseointegration to complete.
All dental treatments should try to preserve the natural teeth of dogs and cats as much as possible. This is also the most important goal of dental treatments such as endodontics, periodontal treatments, and guided tissue regeneration (GTR), etc. Dr. Chung-Wei Chen (Richard Chen) also emphasizes the importance of preserving natural teeth. When natural teeth cannot be preserved or are already missing, dental implants are the best choice for tooth restoration. Guided bone regeneration (GBR) is also necessary to lay the foundation for dental implants; otherwise, it would be meaningless.
Dental implantation is a highly advanced dental technique that requires continuous learning, training, and practical experience over the years. In addition, it is crucial to continually update one’s knowledge and understanding. These skills cannot be developed by simply taking a few courses.
